Background:

The Association of Professional Insurance Women (APIW) has named Jill Beggs, executive vice-president and chief executive of reinsurance at Everest Re, as the 2026 Insurance Woman of the Year.

Beggs will receive the award at the APIW Awards Ceremony scheduled to take place in New York on April 21. The organisation said the honour recognises her leadership, industry influence, and long-standing contribution to the global insurance and reinsurance sector.

APIW president Dawnmarie Black described Beggs as a visionary leader whose work has shaped underwriting excellence, operational strength, and talent development across the industry. She said Beggs’ leadership has driven strong performance at Everest Re while also influencing the wider reinsurance landscape.

Beggs brings more than 30 years of experience in reinsurance underwriting, innovation, and executive leadership. She began her career at Everest Re before spending nearly two decades at Munich Re. During her time there, she led treaty and facultative reinsurance teams, supported innovation initiatives, and played a key role in launching the company’s excess and surplus insurance platform.

She returned to Everest Re in 2021 to lead the North America Reinsurance business. She later served as EVP and chief operating officer of reinsurance, helping expand the firm’s global treaty, facultative, and specialty reinsurance operations. In 2025, she became EVP and CEO of reinsurance and took responsibility for strategy, performance and profitable growth worldwide.

Beyond insurance, Beggs joined Lyft’s board in 2024 and brought her expertise in risk management and governance. APIW also said she actively mentors talent and works to create more opportunities for women in the industry.

Beggs said the award reflects the support of teams and mentors throughout her career.
