Hyundai Motor Group named Uni Hong Executive Vice President and Head of its Energy and Hydrogen Business Division. The move reinforces the automaker’s global hydrogen ambitions and adds fresh executive firepower to its energy push.
Hong spent 18 years at bp working across hydrogen, petroleum, LNG and renewable energy. She built her career on strategic partnerships and policy engagement in major markets, and she has hands-on experience in upstream and downstream operations plus trading.
Her bp resume includes business development, strategy work and hands-on execution across hydrogen, petroleum, LNG and ammonia. She weighed profitability and investment feasibility for large energy portfolios. Early on, she served as Chief of Staff to bp’s Head of Technology. From there she took over hydrogen and ammonia business development, then rose to lead bp’s Global Hydrogen Origination team, where she managed hydrogen projects, government relations and policy work on a global scale.
Hong’s career started outside the energy sector entirely, with stints at P&G Korea and Korea Eximbank before bp.
At Hyundai Motor Group, Hong will report directly to Gang Hyun Seo, President and Head of Corporate Planning Office. Her mandate covers the full hydrogen value chain, from production and storage to transportation and refueling infrastructure.
Executives at the Group point to her track record and global contacts as key assets for sharpening competitiveness in future energy businesses and pushing hydrogen ecosystem growth forward. She takes over from Ken Ramirez, who left the position for personal reasons.
