Background-

Dr. Jill Guttormson, dean of the College of Nursing, has been named to the Milwaukee Business Journal’s annual Women of Influence list, recognizing women leaders from businesses, nonprofits and major institutions across the Milwaukee region.

The recognition highlights Guttormson’s role in expanding the national profile of the College of Nursing through academic growth, infrastructure development and student success initiatives.

Under her leadership, the college’s undergraduate nursing programme ranked among the top 30 in the United States in the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings. Two speciality programmes, nurse anesthesia and nurse midwifery, were also ranked among the top 40 nationally.

The college maintained a graduation rate of 95.79%, remaining above the national average for four-year private institutions. During Guttormson’s tenure, the college also expanded its facilities with the move into the renovated David A. Straz Jr. Hall and the relocation of the Direct-Entry Master of Nursing programme to a new building in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

College officials said the expansion projects and academic initiatives helped increase student enrollment by 16% during her leadership period.

Guttormson has also received recognition as a notable healthcare leader in Milwaukee. She currently serves as a fellow of the American Thoracic Society and remains actively involved with the Midwest Nursing Research Society and Sigma Theta Tau International.

This year’s Women of Influence honorees will be recognized during an awards event in July and featured in a special publication later that month.
