Background
Lucy Kaulbarsch, a social media manager from Lancaster and founder of Lucy Digital, has won the national Marketing Businesswoman of the Year title at the UK Women in Business Awards.
Kaulbarsch also reached the final in the Young Businesswoman of the Year category, marking a major milestone for the Morecambe-based marketing firm she launched during the COVID-19 pandemic.
She started Lucy Digital in 2020 after completing a marketing degree at Lancaster University. The business began with free Instagram advice and simple design work for friends before growing into a full-service agency. It now provides social media management, photography, videography, graphic design and website development to clients across the UK and overseas.
Kaulbarsch said the recognition felt “surreal” and highlighted the challenges many women face in business, including imposter syndrome and confidence in pricing and expertise. She credited her growth to focusing on client results rather than trends and building a distinct brand identity.
The awards programme celebrates women entrepreneurs across sectors such as technology, healthcare, finance, property, and community enterprise. Judges recognised businesses that show resilience, credibility and strong growth.
Lucy Digital has gained national attention in recent years. The company was also a finalist in the Best Digital Marketing Business category at the UK Small Business Awards in 2025.
Kaulbarsch attended local schools in Lancaster before university and built her company from a single-person operation into a growing agency. She said client trust, referrals, and community support played a key role in the firm’s development.
The win places Lucy Digital among a group of emerging UK marketing firms led by young founders who started during the pandemic and scaled through digital services.
Kaulbarsch said she plans to continue expanding the business while encouraging other women to develop their own approach rather than copying industry trends.
The national recognition reflects both the rapid growth of Lucy Digital and the rising influence of small, independent agencies in the UK’s digital marketing sector.
