Background
PublisHer, a global network dedicated to supporting women in the publishing industry, has completed its first participation at the Warsaw International Book Fair through a four-day programme focused on leadership, collaboration, and international publishing opportunities.
The initiative formed part of Sharjah’s Guest of Honour programme at the fair and highlighted the emirate’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural exchange and international dialogue through literature and publishing.
Throughout the event, visitors gathered at the PublisHer stand within the Sharjah Book Authority pavilion to connect with publishing professionals, readers, and industry leaders from Poland and other countries. Organisers said the participation created new partnerships and reinforced the value of stronger connections among women working across global publishing markets.
A key feature of the programme was a panel discussion held in the final week of May titled “Women Reshaping Global Publishing: Who Decides What the World Will Read?” The session examined the ways in which women leaders impact publishing choices, such as the purchase of books, the selection of translations, and the international distribution of narratives. Industry experts from different publishing sectors participated in the discussion.
Another session, held during the same period, focused on rights trading, translation, and market access between the UAE and Poland. Participants examined the factors that help books move successfully across international markets and discussed opportunities for greater cooperation between publishers in both countries.
PublisHer’s participation was organised through Sharjah’s Guest of Honour programme and coordinated by the Sharjah Book Authority. The initiative forms part of Sharjah’s broader strategy to promote the UAE as a global hub for culture, literature, publishing, and knowledge exchange.
The event also strengthened professional networks and opened new opportunities for collaboration between publishing communities in different regions.
