Background:

Jill Stein OBE, co-founder of The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, is set to take the stage at Boutique Hotelier’s upcoming Women in Hotels Brunch in London, celebrating female leadership in the hospitality sector.

The event, taking place at Corinthia London on Friday, March 13, will feature Stein in conversation with Boutique Hotelier’s managing editor, Zoe Monk. The discussion will explore Stein’s remarkable career journey, her advice for women in hospitality, and ways in which restaurant and hotel businesses can amplify women’s voices.

In 1975, Jill and chef Rick Stein opened The Seafood Restaurant on the Padstow quay, starting what would become a well-known hospitality brand. Jill has been important to the business’s growth, turning it from one restaurant into a group of restaurants and hotels across the UK, including Winchester, Sandbanks, Marlborough, and Barnes.

As an interior designer, she has made the restaurants and hotels stylish and welcoming, from hotel rooms and Scandi-style accommodations to the Shepherd’s Huts at The Cornish Arms near Padstow. She draws inspiration from her travels to keep the spaces fresh, modern, and welcoming.

In 2017, Jill launched Porthdune, her personal collection of natural skincare and lifestyle products inspired by the Cornish coast. The range is available both online and in retail spaces across Stein’s restaurants and hotels.

Over the years, Jill’s contributions have been widely recognized. Jill has been honoured with an OBE for her services to the restaurant industry, became chair of Visit Cornwall in 2019, received an honorary doctorate from Plymouth University, and was named one of CODE’s 100 Most Influential Women in Hospitality in 2021.

The Women in Hotels Brunch is now in its fourth year and celebrates the achievements of women in the hospitality industry. Jill Stein’s session will offer inspiration, practical advice, and a behind-the-scenes look at one of the UK’s most respected hospitality brands.
