Background:
Women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Qatar are set to gain new opportunities through technology and innovation, according to Leah Perry, vice chair of a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization.
During her recent visit to Doha, Perry spoke about how modern technology can help SMEs, especially those run by women. She said that Qatar National Vision 2030 focuses on SMEs and sees women entrepreneurs as a “central driver of growth.”
Perry added that technology can make running women-led SMEs easier by handling routine tasks like writing documents and summarizing reports. This, she explained, allows business leaders to focus on strategy, innovation, and scaling their ventures. Perry explained that it can greatly boost productivity and help women business owners compete with bigger companies.
The AI Trust Foundation is committed to ensuring that adoption of such technologies occurs responsibly. Perry said that small businesses should follow good rules, maintain standards, and act responsibly as they grow. She added that trust and strong practices are important for long-term success.
The recent visit included a 15-member delegation of founders and executives from SMEs working across technology, governance, infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The delegation attended the World Summit MENA 2025 and joined talks by the US-Qatar Business Council–Doha (USQBC Doha). They discussed collaborating on rules, funding, business development, and exchanging skilled professionals between the US and Qatar.
Perry praised Qatar for supporting women in business, calling it both “an opportunity and a responsibility.” She said that using innovation responsibly can help women entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
USQBC Doha and The AI Trust Foundation said this delegation is part of wider efforts to strengthen cross-border cooperation and support the growth of women-led businesses in Qatar, highlighting a shared commitment to innovation, ethical practices, and economic development.
