Background-
CBI and University of South Wales have launched a free online toolkit aimed at helping more women move into leadership positions across businesses in Wales.
The resource, titled “Advancing Women’s Leadership – a practical toolkit for businesses,” provides guidance for employers and employees to help improve workplace opportunities for women. The initiative is based on research conducted through the joint Women in Leadership project involving Welsh businesses and employees.
The toolkit identifies six main areas where organisations can improve support for women in the workplace. These include creating more inclusive workplace cultures, promoting flexible working at all levels, expanding mentoring and professional networks, addressing workplace bias and discrimination, supporting caregivers and working families, and encouraging women to build confidence and leadership ambitions.
The toolkit was introduced during the annual Women in Wales: Emerging Leaders Conference held at the university’s Cardiff campus in May. More than 130 business leaders and emerging professionals attended the event.
The conference included participation from senior figures involved in business, public policy and talent development. Speakers and guests included project leader Dr Lauren Josie Thomas and Asha Musoni.
The organisers said the project aims to help businesses create stronger and more balanced leadership teams while improving career opportunities for women across different sectors in Wales.
