Background-
The Bank of Khyber (BoK) held a financial literacy session for women in Chakdara, working with the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dir. The aim was to get more women using formal banking and financial services.
Officials spoke about financial matters, banking services and how the formal financial system works. Women in the room heard how a bank account can help them handle household money and grow their income.
Women entrepreneurs also got a briefing on the financing available to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the agriculture sector. Bank staff explained formal banking channels, business financing options and banking products meant for women who run their own businesses. Participants could see which of these might fit their own work.
The session also covered the hurdles women entrepreneurs face in underserved areas when they seek financial services and business financing. Banking access remains limited in many of these areas, and many women run small ventures with few options nearby.
BoK said it will keep holding similar sessions. It wants to strengthen women’s financial inclusion, back entrepreneurship and raise women’s participation in the formal financial system. The bank said these efforts can help women take a bigger part in economic activity in their communities.
