Background-
Romania’s Chamber of Deputies has passed a bill that creates National Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, giving women business owners a permanent place on the national calendar.
PNL deputy Geanina Pistru-Popa introduced and backed the initiative in Parliament after a proposal from the National Confederation for Women’s Entrepreneurship (CONAF). CONAF founding president Dr. Cristina Chiriac joined Pistru-Popa to reveal the plan publicly at the Women in Economy Gala.
The new observance carries an economic purpose. It will give the country an annual focal point to discuss women entrepreneurs’ contribution to the economy, access to finance, entrepreneurial education and ways to help women-led businesses start and grow.
Pistru-Popa said women who build companies, invest and create jobs deserve recognition, visibility and respect. She described the law as a recognition of merit and thanked CONAF for its vision and perseverance.
Chiriac said the vote marks the start of a new phase. She said CONAF will use the day each year to review progress, measure women’s contribution and track gains such as business growth, new founders and better access to financing. She also thanked Pistru-Popa, the CONAF board and all lawmakers who backed the bill.
Once the law takes effect, Romania will join more than 140 countries that mark a day for women’s entrepreneurship. It will also provide a legal framework for educational programs, conferences, mentorship sessions and public-private partnerships that support women’s economic participation.
