Background

Tawni Cummings has launched a new office in downtown Denver as managing attorney for Women’s Divorce & Family Law Group, marking the firm’s first expansion outside Chicago. The new office focuses exclusively on representing women in family law matters and plans to expand its legal team in the coming months.

Cummings said the office aims to address a gap in Denver’s legal market. While several firms in the city focus on men’s rights in family law, she noted that women’s needs, especially around careers and financial independence, often receive less attention. The company plans to offer legal assistance that addresses these issues.

She emphasized that there could be times when the court is reluctant to award alimony or maintenance, which makes it necessary for lawyers to make strong arguments for such cases. She pointed out that women who quit their jobs to become full-time parents find it difficult during a divorce because they have to build up their careers once again. This can place them at a financial disadvantage.

Cummings also works with women who are primary earners while managing caregiving responsibilities. She said these clients need focused support in protecting assets and planning finances. The firm believes that specializing in women’s legal needs allows it to serve clients more effectively.

The company selected Denver for its first expansion due to similarities in demographics and legal frameworks with Illinois. Cummings said she aims to fill a long-standing gap in the market and build a strong practice focused on women’s family law issues.
